Works at the Sussex Centre for Migration Research, University of Sussex as a Research Fellow. She is currently involved in the following projects: MEDiA (Migration to Europe in the Digital Age), which looks theoretically and empirically at the impact of information communication technologies (ICT) on the migration process and states'capacity to manage migration; and MAFE (Migration between Africa and Europe), which is an EU funded data set on Afro.European migration that is a longitudinal, multi-level and multi-country survey both in Europe and Africa.
She is also working on a project funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation that looks at the impacts of external conflict and local politics on UK communities. Her recently completed Dphil was on Ugandan migrants in Britain: Negotiating spaces of 'home' and 'belonging'. Dr Bainaisa's onggoing research interests include migrants'transnational networks, diaspora development and ICT, identity and gender dynamics in transnational processes.
