Amy Shannon came to Heartland as Associate Director of Enlaces América in February 2002 after working for five years as a non-profit consultant, with a focus on assisting NGOs and foundations with program design and project evaluation. Prior to that, she was a program officer at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation with responsibilities for grantmaking and strategy on biodiversity conservation in Latin America and sustainable development policy. She has also held positions as a high school teacher and as a grants administrator for the Latin American Studies Association. Ms. Shannon currently serves on the boards of directors of two international environmental organizations, the Consumers Choice Council and the Asociación Interamericana para la Defensa del Ambiente. She recently completed an MBA at the Harvard Business School, where she conducted research on rural financial systems, sustainable enterprise, and social marketing.
